Tired of "raccoon eyes" and awkward, stiff poses? Consistently finding too much dead space around your subject? Don’t worry—we’ve all been there. Welcome to Portrait Studies, the class designed to fix the pitfalls of early portraiture through real-world experience. Why sit around a table or watch from a distance? Grab your camera and dive into hands-on sessions with live models. Stop watching the lesson—start shooting it. Our classes will be held at Natural Valley Ranch in both natural settings and small studio settings.
What You’ll Master:
The Art of Direction: Learn to confidently guide subjects into poses that create dimension, flattering shapes, and dynamic compositions.
The Geometry of the Face: Understand the planes of the face and how to adjust your perspective based on different body types.
Lighting: Gain hands-on experience using natural light, reflectors, on-camera flash, and professional studio strobes.
Lens Strategy: Learn exactly why and when to choose specific focal lengths to achieve your desired look.
The Experience: To ensure a premium learning environment, class sizes are strictly limited, although a minimum student number of 4 will need to be met in order to meet the extra expense of models. You will work directly with professional models (no student modeling required) to build your portfolio and receive real-time, one-on-one feedback from your instructor. Start building your portfolio with new quality work in this dynamic four week intensive.
Duration: 4 Weeks (2 hours per session)
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of Manual Mode. Preferably a camera with interchangeable lenses
Investment: $400 (Studio lighting and models provided)
